You’ve probably heard in Science class that it’s okay to lose about 50 to 100 strands of hair a day. While we would typically see our hair go down the drain especially when we’re shampooing, it can be a little tricky to tell whether this is a result of normal hair loss or a symptom for something more serious. How do you know if the hair we shed is something that should cause us to worry? Here are some things for you to consider.
One of the first things you should know is that your Science teacher was right about losing a number of hair strands a day. Whether you’re brushing, washing or combing your locks, you will probably notice a couple of strands come through. This would only be normal if you see some hairs in the shower, but typically it should only be from ten to fifteen percent of your total strands. You should know that this number is not the standard for everyone. It will still depend on the amount of hair you still have on your head, and while 100 strands may not be concerning for those with thick, long hair, a person with receding hairlines and a hundred less strands might already need to seek advice from a skilled professional.
Hair loss is not something that we should really worry about. In fact, it’s not even the actual number of strands that you should take note of. It would be the quality of the hairs you’ve grown back that will spell the difference. You may have only lost about less than 50 strands a day, but if you notice that the hair you grow back is not as thick as what you have shed, then maybe it’s time to get yourself checked to find the right hair replacement system for you.
