One of the most popular cosmetic surgeries in Europe and in the US is the treatment for baldness. It is not puzzling at all why there’s always someone who’s willing to spend thousands of dollars to get the hair growing again on the bald spot of their scalp. The obvious reason, of course, is that baldness is viewed as a disease of old men and almost everybody finds it hard to admit that each passing day is a step towards old age. As much as possible, we want to look and feel young and a great way to do this is to keep our youthful and abundant hair.
If your bald spots are already developed such that you are almost totally bald, the most recommended treatment for you to hair get growing again in your bald spot is the transplantation of hair follicles that are healthy and living from one region of the scalp to the bald spot. All men who have male pattern baldness, which is the main cause of hair loss in men, lose their hair at the hairline above the forehead, the crown area and the top of the head. The back of the head is untouched by the condition so it’s an area where there is still good hair growth. The hairs from this area are then harvested to become implants into the bald areas. When a cosmetic surgeon does hair restoration surgery, he or she will get hair follicles from the back area and these are then inserted into the balding area.
At present, there are four recognized types of hair grafts or transplants that a man can choose from. The first one is called a slit graft which is a slit of the scalp’s skin that is taken from the donor site and this graft is inserted into the bald spot by creating an incision. Each slit graft consists of about 30 hairs. The technique for this graft results in an obvious scar since the size of the graft is large and it is straight line. The second type of hair graft is called the rounded punch graft. It consists of 10 hairs and it results in a more natural look than slit graft. Though, it can still be noticed.
The two grafting techniques that are almost impossible to notice are the mini-grafts and micro-grafts. The mini-grafts have four to five hairs per graft and it appears somewhat natural. However, for the most natural outcome that a patient can have, micro-graft should be the technique used. These are actually follicular groups consisting of one up to three hairs. The size of these grafts is equal to the size of natural occurring follicular groups so they are hardly noticed even with an up close examination.
Take note that the cost per graft becomes higher as the size of graft becomes smaller. Also, you need more grafts to cover the bald area when the graft used is smaller. The good thing about the technique of micro-grafting is that it provides a better and most natural result for hair loss restoration. If you can afford it, then it should be the procedure you choose.
